### Is PAT testing a legal requirement in the UK?
The law does not name PAT testing specifically, but the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require electrical equipment to be maintained so that it does not cause danger. A documented programme of inspection and testing is the most practical way for employers and landlords to meet and demonstrate this duty.

### How often should portable appliances be tested?
There is no single fixed interval. It depends on the type of equipment, how it is used and the environment — equipment on construction sites and in workshops needs more frequent checks than IT equipment in offices.
